For all the definitions of public relations, the reason for that type of business being in existence comes down to profits, as does most everything about business comes down to profits. Profits are spurred by the successful sale of the company products, and when considered on a national or global scale, the services of some aspects of public relations are necessary to ‘spread the word’.

A local business in a limited market may be able to rely on word-of-mouth advertising and in fact, there are many types of companies who use that methodology.
